Towards a Community Governance Review for Edingthorpe

Norfolk’s Small Parishes featured on YouTube

Four of Norfolk’s smallest, rural civil parishes have now featured on the popular on-line video platform “YouTube”. A creator called “The Village Idiot” is aiming to visit each of the 10,474 civil parishes in England.

He has made a few visits to Norfolk, so far, including to some of Norfolk’s smallest parishes: Beeston St. Andrew (31 electors were living there in 2025), Crostwick (48) , Titchwell (55), and Choseley (15).

Each civil parish – however small – gets its own video. Links to each of his videos is provided below. Do join him on tours around these small but fascinating parishes!

It is worth reflecting on the fact that these featured villages, despite each being smaller than Edingthorpe (139 electors were living at Edingthorpe, as of April 2026), have each got something that Edingthorpe hasn’t got – their very own, statutory parish meeting, and a legal status as an independent civil parish in their own right. Edingthorpe hasn’t got one of those (we lost ours in 1935), but is instead merely part of an even bigger civil parish, called “Bacton”, containing 1002 electors.

When the time comes for Edingthorpe to get visited by “The Village Idiot”, it looks like Edingthorpe won’t be getting its own video. Under current parish governance arrangements, Edingthorpe’s video would be shared with Bacton’s.
